Skull & Shackles
The Lost Messenger
While at Rickety’s Squibs, Kyoju heard tell of a magnificent clockwork toucan with a skin of silver and cogs of brass. So expertly crafted was the creature that the toucan, itself, was convinced it was real and flew off into the jungle. It is now lost among the Isles of the Shackles, but would be an impressive marvel for any Free Captain to acquire. It has been spotted from time to time by sailors, but never yet captured.
You discovered the toucan on an island in an archipelago deserted of sentient life. The toucan successfully delivered it’s message, fulfilling the purpose of it’s creator. Liat Merks’ dire warning to stay away from the isles served to reinforce what you had already discovered: something is warping the plant and animal life there. Fruit trees grew to almost twice their size, but animals were twisted and warped. Color has leeched from everything in the depths of the isle’s jungle by day and everything organic possesses a weird, incandescent sheen by night, shining with a color you cannot name. In the middle of it all stands a silent black ziggurat.
