Old Captain Mutiny
Old Jol Blassey was briefly the first mate of a ship called the Ravage Dawn out of Port Peril. He served for scarcely more than a week before he was discovered calling for mutiny and flayed alive for the act. His skinless corpse was mounted on the bowsprit, where it quickly decayed to a skeleton. The crew dressed the bones in a captain’s hat and coat, gave it a gleaming cutlass that would never rust, and named the grim effigy Ol’ Captain Mutiny. For a year afterward, officers aboard the Ravage Dawn would suddenly die near the bow of the ship, their bodies left to be found with the rising sun. No blood ever stained the blade of the skeleton, but the crew cast the thing into the sea rather than take the chance.
